Just days prior to their first preseason game of the 2014 season, the San Francisco 49ers have made several moves, including the releases of running back Kendall Hunter and wide receiver Jon Baldwin.
Hunter, who tore his ACL on the second day of training camp and will miss the entire 2014 season, was the change of pace running back and primary back-up to Frank Gore.
If Hunter clears waivers, as many expect him to (he’s a free agent after this season), he would wind up back on the 49ers team and be placed on injured reserve.
Baldwin, a former 2011 first round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs, was traded to the 49ers prior to the start of the 2013 season for A.J. Jenkins. In his brief 49er career, Baldwin caught three passes on nine targets for 28 yards.
In corresponding moves, the 49ers added running back Glenn Winston, an undrafted free agent rookie and wide receiver L’Damian Washington, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday.
