San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis threatened to hold out for a new deal, but ultimately decided to show up on time. The decision was made in part for his teammates and a sense of responsibility to them.
“It was a very easy decision. All you have to do is think about the team,” Davis said, via Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News. “That’s what I did. I thought about my teammates, especially some of the guys like Frank Gore and the guys that are on the last year of their contracts, guys who I love, would die for. There’s nothing like being here. Nothing like it. It’s great. It’s such a blessing to be able to go out here and practice with these guys.”
Davis went on to say that it wasn’t easy to be apart from his teammates. Davis skipped some offseason activities.
“I just love playing football. I love playing football. Anytime that I’m away from these guys, I’m hurt. I’m hurt. It really hurt me to be away from this group because we have such a special group, we definitely have a playoff team. We definitely want to get back to where we left off.”
