(The following is the beginning of a what will be a 7-part series looking at each roster spot for fantasy football for the 49ers)
The San Francisco 49ers might be among the most wanted teams in fantasy football, holding as many as nine starting roster spots on a team.
Assuming most leagues that use the format of: 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Kicker and 1 Defense/Special teams, the 49ers as a team, are about as strong as any team in the league, maybe next to the Denver Broncos.
I’ve been in, as I’m sure some of you may have, some leagues where you have that one person who is an absolute homer for his team. They could care less about winning a real fantasy football championship, they only want the guys from their favorite team.
First pick in the draft? Adrian Peterson? Jamal Charles? Nah, they’ll take Tony Romo or Dez Bryant.
It’s hard not to blame them, and you can laugh at their picks until you get to that one week where they’ve got their entire squad playing a game on Monday Night, and you’ve played all your guys and are only up 50 points.
Yeah, it’s not fun, not fun at all.
So if you decided to go homer on the 49ers, according to your typical roster format, here’s what your team would look like:
QB: Colin Kaepernick
RB: Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore
WRs: Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson
TE: Vernon Davis
K: Phil Dawson
It’s actually a very good squad, very competitive and comparable to a team like Denver, perhaps the other best fantasy football team in the NFL today.
You could choose two 49er running backs if San Francisco decides to split carries the way the Houston Texas did last season with Arian Foster and Ben Tate, in which case, both Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore would become viable options.
You could very easily form your own fantasy football team with just all 49er starters. Bottom line is this, the 49ers have a lot of weapons, and in fantasy football terms, they are among the very best teams.
