This is the first part of a series on where the San Francisco 49ers rookies will fit into the 49ers’ scheme and system for this year and beyond, looking at rounds 1, 2, and 3.
The 49ers made a surprising choice in round 1: drafting at there allotted spot. The more people have looked at what the 49ers did, and who they drafted–Jimmie Ward–the more everything has come together to make sense. In round two the 49ers traded back from 56, then immediately up to 57 and drafted their man, Carlos Hyde, before trading away pick 61. In round three the Trent Baalke got to work selecting players, picking up a potential starter in Marcus Martin, adding ILB depth in Chris Borland, and selecting an injured but talented Brandon Thomas. Where, however, will these players fit into the 49ers’ system?
