The San Francisco 49ers and 31 other NFL teams will have the opportunity to choose or trade in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night, May 8, starting at 5 pm PT. You can watch the draft live on NFL Network and ESPN2 as well as a live stream online at both WatchESPN.com or at NFL.com/live.
There is little doubt that this year’s draft will set records for viewership–or at least come darn close. This event has been getting more and more popular with every passing year and, even with the NFL pushing it back a couple of weeks, the anticipation remains as high as ever for all 32 teams in need or want of a piece or pieces to fix what is broken, plug holes, and bring their franchise to the promised land.
For the 49ers, these positions include cornerback and wide receiver, with a potential need at outside linebacker. They are a good team, and they are likely going to trade up, meaning that those 49ers fans on the East Coast will not have to stay up quite so late to find out who the 49ers pick–though, if they pick at 30, that would be the case.
We will find out what Trent Baalke‘s strategy is soon enough. In the meantime, we can speculate and have a bit of fun. Keep your eyes open for some more thoughts throughout Thursday depicting what exactly the 49ers should look into, what trades they should make, and what players they should target–hint: they should pick up a certain Clemson receiver. . .in the second round.
Of course, we all expect to be extremely excited with some picks and let down with others. At least we will be able to watch it, no matter where we are.
The Draft is almost here. Get ready, get excited, prepare your critiques for every teams’ selection.
