Don Banks of SI.com has some interesting thoughts on who the San Francisco 49ers should draft in the first round on Thursday evening.
Banks gives the 49ers Cody Latimer, a wide receiver out of Indiana University. Though Latimer’s tape has looked good and he has potential, the 6-3 215 lb prospect with a 4.44 40-yard dash time has been rocketing up boards in the past couple of weeks. To be honest, that is the only thing that scares me.
A.J. Jenkins was a big reach when the 49ers picked him at the end of the 2012 first round. I would say Latimer is too, if receivers did not look as if they were going to fill more and more spots in the first round with every passing day. The other problem is, now is the time of draft season when GMs, coaches, and front office personnel are sending out feelers and misinformation to try and get a better sense of how the draft will end up.
Though I think Latimer will be a good player in the NFL and I would be happy to have him on the 49ers, I still think a better course of action would be to trade up into the middle of the first round, pick up Odell Beckham Jr. and then draft Martavis Bryant at the end of the second. I believe other positions can be addressed while doing this too.
Just three more days. . .
