San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is about to make history when stock tied to his future earnings is released for an initial public offering on Monday, April 28. Yes, that is right, you can own some of Vernon Davis
Vernon Davis, Arian Foster, and E.J. Manuel are the three players Fantex has lined up right now to offer stock in. Whether you not you think this is a great investment opportunity, a travesty, or do not really care, you have to admit that, at the very least, it is an interesting proposition. Davis received about $4 million from Fantex and will hand over 10% of all future earnings–including NFL contracts, marketing contracts, speaking engagements, and other off-the-field and post-NFL career income.
Is it worth it? Well, as Fantex states, the projection is based on at least one more multi-year contract for Davis. An injury could leave an investor with nothing to show for his or her investment. Nevertheless, assuming he stays healthy, it should be a given that Davis gets a fat new contract in a couple of years.
Fantex is offering 421,000 shares at $10 a piece. You might want to get in on the action fast, as there are only two days left to reserve yours stock. Fantex is hoping to sell all of the stock in advance of the IPO and then secondary trading can commence.
One thing is for sure: Vernon Davis keeps intriguing the world.
