San Francisco 49ers‘ quarterback Colin Kaepernick and wide receiver Quinton Patton are being investigated by Miami Special Victims Office for what the police report calls a “suspicious incident.” Both Kaepernick and Patton, as well as former 49er and current Seahawk Ricardo Lockette are listed as “suspects” in the report.
Apparently a woman, identified as black, came to visit the trio at a Miami apartment on April 1, where she mixed shots for the three and was told that “in order to drink the shots she had to ‘hit’ the bong which contained marijuana.” After talking and watching basketball, she felt light-headed and decided to go to a bedroom to lie down. She told the police that Kaepernick followed her in and, after kissing, Kaepernick left. No sex occurred at this time. Apparently Patton and Lockette peaked in later, prompting the woman, whose name was redacted from the report, to say “What are you doing? Where is Colin; Get out!”
She later woke up in a hospital bed, not remembering anything that happened in between Lockette and Patton leaving her in the room and her arousal in the hospital. She later phoned the police.
First and foremost, this is not a pleasing story for anyone in the 49ers organization–which has put out a statement saying that they are collecting the necessary facts. Secondly, there does not seem to be a sexual crime to investigate, as stated by Miami Police spokesman Rene Pimental, via the San Jose Mercury News:
“There’s no evidence of a crime or a sexual assault. This report is simply an incident report taken at the woman’s request.”
That, at least, should make 49ers fans breathe.
Despite the fact that the biggest issue at play here is a woman who had too much to drink and smoke and the star quarterback and number 3 receiver of the 49ers illegally possessing and using marijuana, this does not reflect well on the quarterback of the future for San Francisco who is after a monster payday. This just gives critics of Kaepernick–who primarily dislike his tattoos and offer ridiculous criticisms–more ammunition. They can criticize all they want, but Kaepernick did not, apparently, take advantage of an intoxicated woman–with whom he had had a previous sexual relationship–and the woman ended up somehow in the hospital. If anything, this seems to show how responsible Kaepernick is, even in potentially difficult situations.
Still, however, this is not a pleasing thing for 49ers fans to read.
