Anquan Boldin announced that he re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday on what is reportedly a 2-year deal. He later opened up to the public about the recent whirlwind of media coverage surrounding his ball club and its head coach, Jim Harbaugh.
According to ESPN.com, Boldin’s response to the rumors was to laugh, saying
“I don’t think anybody in our locker room has an issue with Coach Harbaugh . . . If anybody has any concerns or wants to voice their opinions, they’re more than welcome to.”
It would be one thing if this were the coaching staff or front office saying this. It is quite another when a player tells the media, in relative detail, something pretty close to the exact opposite situation that the media had been portraying. This is a club and a team that is more than cohesive and more than happy with each other, from the front office to the front lines, according to any official front you ask.
Does that mean there is no creative tension? I doubt it. Like all men making decisions essential to their livelihoods and that of the team, Harbaugh and Trent Baalke are bound to butt heads now and again. No employee likes his boss at all times, and I cannot imagine that players are particularly happy with Harbaugh on all occasions. If they were, Harbaugh would be doing something wrong.
The firestorm will continue, but the water hoses are starting to calm the flames.
