As one door closed, another one opened up for San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman in his quest for a head coaching job.
After Penn State announced this week former Vanderbilt coach James Franklin will be their new head coach, a job Roman also interviewed for, it was reported the 49ers offensive coordinator will interview with the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday. One day before the Niners take on the Carolina Panthers in the Divisional Round of the post-season.
Reports are indicating the Vikings will also interview defensive-line coach Jim Tomsula this weekend.
The irony for Roman, and Tumsula for that matter, is the more success the 49ers have in the playoffs, the less likely either will get the job with the Vikings. Teams are looking to fill their coaching vacancies sooner, rather than later.
The Vikings are flying to Charlotte, North Carolina, to conduct the interviews with Roman and Tomusla. If either become finalists for the coaching job, they will travel to Minnesota to interview with the Viking ownership.
