The Associated Press released it’s annual All-Pro selections on Friday and the San Francisco 49ers had 5 players announced to the prestigious roster.
The only player from the 49ers on the first-team All-Pro squad was NaVorro Bowman. He is undoubtedly having his best year as a pro this year and the AP voters awarded him with a spot. This is Bowman’s 3rd consecutive year on the first-team roster.
4 players were selected on the second-team roster: Defensive End Justin Smith, tight end Vernon Davis, left tackle Joe Staley, and outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks.
Patrick Willis was the most notable snub not to make either roster. Willis, has been named to the AP All-Pro first- or second team every year since his rookie season.
The AP poll consists of 50 media panel members that construct these rosters every year for the NFL.
NaVorro Bowman was also named the Defensive Player of the Month for December. He recorded 45 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 interceptions, one of which included the remarkable “Pick at the Stick” to close out the victory against the Atlanta Falcons. This marks Bowman’s first POM award.
To add to his trophy case Bowman collected the Len Eshmont Award, which is the most coveted team award to the most inspirational player on the 49ers. We can only assume that the Defensive Player of the Year is the next accolade coming for Bowman to cap off the outstanding year he’s having.
