December proved to be a big month not only for the San Francisco 49ers, but also for linebacker NaVorro Bowman. This week, Bowman was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month. This is the first time Bowman has won Player of the Month in his career.
In the 49ers’ five wins in December, Bowman contributed 45 tackles, three sacks and passes defensed, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Without a doubt his biggest play of the month was his pick-6 in the Farewell to Candlestick game. He forever etched his name into Niners history by closing out Candlestick Park with a bang with an 89-yard touchdown return.
On the season, Bowman has registered 145 tackles (120 solo), nine passes defensed, five sacks, four forced fumbles, two interceptions and two recovered fumbles. With his consistent play throughout the season, he is one of the top candidates to win Defensive Player of the Year.
