From all of us here at Niner Noise, we want to say Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah to the 49ers nation and beyond!
Even though the San Francisco 49ers will not be playing on Thanksgiving, there will be three games that will provide plenty of entertainment and excitement. Some of the more memorable games in NFL history have been played on Thanksgiving Day. My favorite game was the Snow Bowl played between the Dolphins and Cowboys on November 25, 1993. It was the infamous game in which Cowboys defensive tackle Leon Lett made a mistake in the final seconds of the fourth quarter that is now known as the Blizzard Blunder. The Dolphins were trailing 14-13 and had a field goal blocked…and then this happened:
The 49ers have a record of 3-1-1 playing on Thanksgiving. Their first game was against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Yes, you read that right. Both the 49ers and San Francisco Giants have played games against the Dodgers. The game was played in 1947 when the 49ers were part of the All-American Football Conference. San Francisco won 21-7.
The last time the 49ers had a game on Thanksgiving was HarBowl I against the Ravens. Jim lost to his brother John, 16-6. Before that game the 49ers went 39 seasons without playing a game on Thanksgiving.
