The San Francisco 49ers hope to avoid the same fate that saw the Stanford Cardinal lose to a team it had beaten multiple seasons in a row. The Bay Area has a good shot at avoiding another loss.
The 49ers have been criticized heavily this past week. This, however, is a good sign, as Jim Harbaugh’s teams have played some of their best ball with their backs up against the wall. Remember that two game losing streak? The result: 5 straight wins. Remember last season after the 49ers got blasted for losing big in Seattle? What happened after that? A run to the Super Bowl. These 49ers do not back down when faced with challenges. These players are men, not boys. They will support one another in the worst of circumstances (see: Smith, Aldon), they will defend each other in the face of critical media (see: Kaepernick, Colin and before him Smith, Alex). Some feathers may be ruffled, as is shown by Kaepernick’s habit of re-tweeting negative comments on Twitter, but the energy this brings is not a negative one. Rather, it is a positive reinforcement that nothing comes easy and everything must be worked for.
This 49ers team does not get complacent. That is why they will win in New Orleans. That is why they could very well win in Seattle in the playoffs. That is why they could, perhaps, win another championship.
