49ers Mid-Season Awards

The San Francisco 49ers sit comfortably at 6-2 heading into the bye week and trail the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West by one game. After a rocky start to the season they have won 5 straight games and are primed for another run at the Lombardi Trophy. Here are my mid-season awards for the 49ers:

Offensive MVP: Frank Gore
Frank the Tank has been a staple for the offense all year and has shown no signs of slowing down. His 618 yards rushing is third in the league and 7 touchdowns ranks second among running backs. With the issues in the passing game Gore has been consistent and without him the offense would be stagnant.
Honorable Mention: Vernon Davis

Defensive MVP: NaVarro Bowman

Bowman leads the team in tackles (69 total) and has continuously been making plays on the defensive side of the ball. When Patrick Willis went down the defense didn’t skip a beat while Bowman was leading the charge. He can do it all as a linebacker made evident by his 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles on the year.
Honorable Mention: Justin Smith

Offensive ROY: N/A

No rookie has made any substantial impact for the Niners thus far.
Honorable Mention: Vance McDonald – A few good catches and solid blocking are enough to give him at least some recognition.

Defensive ROY: Eric Reid
This award unanimously goes to Reid in a landslide. Reid has picked up right where Dashon Goldson left off for the Niners but Reid excels in coverage where Goldson struggled mightily. He has 3 interceptions this year which is tied for second in the league along with 6 passes defended and 39 total tackles. Reid will only get better with more experience and offenses should be scared to throw his way. Jim Harbaugh has struck gold with the future All-Pro.
Honorable Mention: Corey Lemonier
