Wide receiver and special team’s ace Kassim Osgood has been signed by the San Francisco 49ers to a one-year contract. To make room on the roster the team placed linebacker Nick Moody on the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return List.
It’s great to see Osgood back with the Niners as he was with team during training camp and the preseason. On August 31, he was released from the team in the final roster cuts before the season. He is a two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl selection as a special team’s player. In his ten-year career, he has 122 tackles on special teams.
I was surprised Osgood did not make the regular season roster because of his special team’s skills. He was likely not kept on the roster because they did not have space for him, as opposed to dwindling abilities. He will make San Francisco’s kick and punt coverage teams even more potent. In addition, he will give the receiving corps more depth in case of any injuries. In 152 career games, he has 44 receptions for 749 yards and five touchdowns.
