The abrupt retirement of quarterback Seneca Wallace from the San Francisco 49ers took another in the WTF direction. The seven-day Niners QB is now contending the only reason the team signed him was to pressure Colt McCoy to take a pay cut.
I’ve been around this game long enough where I can see what’s going on and I realized right away the reason they brought me here was to get Colt to take a pay cut. I have not retired. I have just removed myself from the San Francisco situation because it wasn’t a perfect fit for me.
Alright then, I am glad that’s all cleared up and settled. Wallace went on to say he had no hard feelings towards the Niners, he just didn’t want to be with a team that did not want him.
On August 26, McCoy did dropped his base salary from $1.5 million to the fourth-year minimum of $630,000, the day after he was named the backup QB to Colin Kaepernick. While it’s true McCoy took a lower salary after Wallace was signed, I doubt his claim the Niners only signed him to pressure Colt.
The irony is after spending the 2012 season out of football, getting cut by the 49ers and the New Orleans Saints in the same month, at 33-years old, he is retired regardless of how he feels. There is no way another NFL team will sign Wallace. But best of luck to him, I guess.
