Earlier in the week there was a big question mark on who would be the 49ers backup quarterback behind Colin Kaepernick, now after a pay cut and rumors swirling, Jim Harbaugh confirmed that Colt McCoy would be the 49ers backup QB heading into the season.
McCoy played his best game in the preseason after a victory over the Minnesota Vikings. McCoy went 11 for 15 for 109 yards and an interception. He also led a touchdown drive that was capped off by Jewel Hampton‘s four yard touchdown run.
“Over the last week, I feel like things have come together…I practiced really well. And, then, minus a couple exceptions, I felt I played well tonight. All that is confidence for me, moving forward. Was I ever scared or nervous? No, I wasn’t worried about the situation. I was more concerned about me getting a grasp of what’s going on. And I really think I’m on my way to a lot of improvement there.” – Colt McCoy
The quarterback competition now turns to the battle for the third QB between last years #3 QB Scott Tolzien, impressive rookie B.J. Daniels and newcomer Seneca Wallace. If last nights repetitions mean anything to the coaching staff then Daniels is in the lead for that spot with Wallace trailing him.
