A lot has been said, both positive and negative, about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick posing nude for ESPN The Magazine’s The Body Issue.
However, we had not heard much of what fellow 49er players thought about Kaepernick appearing in the buff on the cover. That is until we heard from safety Donte Whitner who said, “I would never do that.”
Whitner made his remarks about Kaepernick while appearing on Cleveland sports radio station WKRK-FM 92.3 The Fan. He also said:
To each his own. I don’t know about all the naked pictures and the lower body. I’m a little bit against that, but to each his own…He’s the man right now, and that’s what he chose to do. But he’s going to receive some flak in the locker room.
I wish I could be a fly on the wall of the 49ers’ locker room when training camp starts, just to hear the “flak” Whitner is talking about.
We can expect to hear more from Niner players as training camp starts, because there will be questions from reporters about the cover. No matter how distracting and irrelevant the questions are to playing football. I wonder what players will be asked about more: Kaep’s cap controversy or him appearing nude on a magazine cover.
By the way, Whitner said this about Kaep’s cap controversy:
I agree with both sides on it.
