Who needs a “source” or a “report” to break news in the NFL these days, when players can just Tweet or Instagram breaking news? Well, Eric Reid broke the news on Instagram that he signed his rookie contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Reid becomes the final member of the 49ers draft class to sign, two weeks before he and the other rookies will report to Training Camp on the 19th.
The former LSU Tiger Reid was selected 19th overall in the NFL Draft after the Niners traded up with the Dallas Cowboys to secure his rights. Reid was the second safety taken in the draft behind New Orleans Saints first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro.
Reid has some huge shoes to fill, as he is expected to replace former Pro Bowl Safety Dashon Goldson, who signed a long-term contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reid will compete for the starting free safety spot opposite of Donte Whitner, with Craig Dahl and Trenton Robinson.
Reid has the chance to be the most impactful player from the 49ers draft class and should be the only immediate starter from the 2013 class on a team that returns a good, young nucleus and expects to reach the Super Bowl for the second straight year.
