Fatal Accident Reported At New San Francisco 49ers Stadium

On Tuesday morning there was a fatal accident at the construction site of the San Francisco 49ers new stadium. It was reported a worker was killed in an elevator shaft at around 6:50 a.m. The name of the victim has not bee released. Construction was halted after the incident.

Statement from the San Francisco 49ers on the incident at the stadium construction site:

The 49ers organization was deeply saddened to learn this morning of the news at the construction site. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy. The 49ers family has lost a teammate today.

The 49ers are starting a three day mini-camp on Tuesday but practice will go on as scheduled. The Niners new stadium is being built in Santa Clara, CA, and is slated to open for the 2014 season. Levi’s Stadium will host the 2016 Super Bowl.
