49ers Jeff Ferguson Promoted To Vice President Of Player Personnel

The San Francisco 49ers announced last Thursday, that Director of Football Operations Jeff Ferguson, has been promoted to Vice President of Player Personnel. The position became available once Tom Gamble left for the Philadelphia Eagles. The news is encouraging, since the 49ers are already familiar with Ferguson, allowing the strong continuity between the front office and players to continue.

GM Trent Baalke released a statement regarding Ferguson’s new role, saying:

Jeff does an excellent job of managing our football operations. With Jeff’s leadership we have built a strong, cohesive group that provides excellent services for our players and coaches.

Ferguson served as the team’s head of athletic training from 2006-2010, evaluating the team’s rehabilitation procedures, injury records, training room and daily athletic training duties, before eventually getting his promotion. Ferguson is well respected by his peers, which eventually allowed him to land the position with the team. He is often the man behind the scenes, having to coordinate the sports medicine, strength and conditioning, team logistics, and equipment and video departments. A jack of all trades kind of a guy.

Although Ferguson never had any prior experience in his new capacity, he should transition nicely, as he is already familiar with the team.
