Safety Ed Reed Set To Join San Francisco 49ers?

WR Anquan Boldin may not be the only Baltimore Raven heading to the city by the bay. According to a report via Pro Football Talk, rumors recently surfaced that S Ed Reed could be next in line to join the San Francisco 49ers. Albert Breer of NFL Network first reported that Reed hired new agent David Dunn of Athletes First. Dunn is the CEO of the company and currently represents GM Trent Baalke, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. In business, sometimes it is not what you know, but who you know, and if that holds true, then look for Dunn to help Reed strike a deal with the 49ers.

Reed will almost certainly be paid handsomely, but not at the $8 million per year that FS Dashon Goldson was seeking, making Reed a cheaper alternative. Also, Reed would provide leadership experience to the back end of the defense, a trait that was sorely missing last season.

Whether or not Reed signs with San Francisco is as good as anyone’s guess, but it sure makes sense considering he wants another ring and the 49ers were one game short of making that a reality. The 11-year veteran has racked up 61 interceptions (7 returned for touchdowns) and 137 passes defensed during his tenure with the Baltimore Ravens.

    I can’t say I wouldn’t rather see Reed as a Ram.

Thank you for the feedback Sean.

    That would be the sweet!

Thank you Erik. We shall see soon where Reed lands as New England and Indianapolis also provide great landing destinations for him as well.

Acquiring Ed Reed would be a great move for the Niners. Our secondary was sorely lacking last season, specially in the playoffs. Reed’s leadership and experience will be huge for us. Having David Dunn in the mix all but seals the acquisition for us. Great move!

I agree with you Arnold. The secondary was exposed in the playoffs, especially in the Super Bowl and something needs to be done. Reed would be awesome.
