According Jay Glazer of Fox Sports and Adam Schefter of ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers have traded quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs. The trade cannot be made official until the start of the 2013 season on March 12.
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I’m told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Chiefs will trade second-round pick this year – the top pick in second round – as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 27, 2013
As you can see from Schefter’s tweet, it looks like the Niners will receive the first pick of the second-round (34th overall) of the draft in April. San Francisco receiving a second-round draft pick for Smith was a higher pick compensation I thought they would receive in a trade. Especially with the Chiefs picking first in the second-round, but we will take it.
This is the best scenario for the 49ers and Smith. The team is now all yours Colin Kaepernick.
