The Las Vegas oddsmakers have picked the San Francisco 49ers as the favorites to win Super Bowl XLVII over the Baltimore Ravens. As of now, most of the betting has the 49ers line at 4.5 points over the Ravens. Unless an injury or something unforeseen occurs to an important player on either team causing them to miss the game, the 49ers should still be the favorites when the Super Bowl starts. The over-under for the Super Bowl opened at 49 points, and then fell to 48.5.
The Niners are likely the early favorites because, well, they are the better team. But just because Las Vegas says a team will win, doesn’t mean it always turns out that way. All you have to do is look at the odds against the Ravens in the playoffs. They were underdogs by more than one touchdown in both the division and championship playoffs rounds. Against the New England Patriots, the Ravens were supposed to lose by at least 7.5 points. Instead, they beat the Patriots 28-13 to move on to the Super Bowl.
The game will be close and the 4.5 points could have gone either way. Both teams are hot and on a roll during their postseason run. Plus, both teams can run the football, have a good quarterback and a defense that is championship caliber.
The betting I like more are the hundreds of side bets, or proposition bets, for the game like which team will win the coin toss, which team will score the first touchdown and which quarterback will have more passing yards. It should be noted that casinos have lost only once on the Super Bowl in the last 10 years, which was in 2008 with the New York Giants upsetting the Patriots, 17-14.
