49ers Vs. Rams: Kicker David Akers Returns To Practice After Injury

San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers returned to practice on Wednesday after sitting out with an injury.  On the 49ers injury report Akers is listed as having an injured pelvis, but he is expected to play on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.

The 49ers brought in free agent kickers Billy Cundiff and Nate Kaeding for workouts on Tuesday.  At the time it was unknown what injury Akers had and whether or not he would be abvaiable on Sunday.  Last week in the game against the Saints, Akers missed a 50-yard field goal and had a 33-yard field goal blocked.

Compared to his record setting season last year, Akers is not playing as well as expected.  He can still be counted on to hit clutch field goals; however, he has made just 19 of 27 this season.

Jim Harbaugh on Akers’ injury,

I think it’ll probably be on the injury report that David Akers is working through something and we want to make sure that we have a Plan B.
