The San Francisco 49ers have signed linebacker NaVarro Bowman to a 5-year extension worth potentially $42.25 million. $25.5 million is guaranteed and although it is not officially done yet, Bowman could not keep the news in and let Patrick Willis know he will be playing alongside him for years to come. Bowman said,
He was excited. I wasn’t supposed to tell him, but I couldn’t keep it from him. He has a great deal to do with this, too, just playing beside him and him helping me through this season and last year.
With Bowman signing the extension, all four of the 49ers’ starting linebackers are signed through the 2015. We can expect to see Bowman, Willis, Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith continue to harass offenses for at least the next three years. The group has the potential to become one of the best linebacking corps in NFL history.
Bowman deserves the contract extension after stepping into the starting role last season. The Niners drafted him in the third round of the 2010 draft and he has 100 tackles, 2 sacks and one interception this season.
