Niners Fail in Try For Redemption

The defense kept the Niners in the game following two Alex Smith interceptions in the red zone. After being put in such a bad position it could have been different had Carlos Rodgers not dropped an interception that was a possible touchdown. Some may look at the stats for the defense and feel they did not get enough pressure on Eli Manning but the Defense was unable to get to the quarterback due to the score and play calling of the Giants.

Special teams was the big problem in this game and they need to get better on coverage the field position advantage the Niners had last year after kick offs has not been there. The loss of key special teams players through free agency and trades has to be addressed. Good thing for Niner Fans is that we get to see our team back on the field in four days against the Seattle Seahawks which won’t erase the bitter taste of the Giant game but a win would be a start.

Two things worry me about this loss, since we can play MUCH BETTER than this. First, Staley went down with a concussion, Boone had to switch to tackle because WE HAVE NO BACKUPS. And what did I constantly harp on during Draft and Free Agency time? Why are they ignoring me? Have we descended to the level of dumb beasts? Unlikely Staley will be ready for Thursday. We gave up 6 sacks – still way too much. Instead of sticking with the successful ground pounding run game, we forced Alex to force throws in a panic. He is not good at this, so go back to the ball-control West Coast offense – it was working. I don’t care if he gets called a game manager, as long as we don’t turn it over, we win. Second, what is wrong with our special teams? Return game, coverage, and most of all what’s happened with Akers? Better get him stabilized to get his confidence back, because we know he is much, much better than this. I look forward to a Thursday rebound with Seattle if we just get back to OUR GAME. Go Niners!
