Heavyweight Bout?

Heavyweight Bout?

After watching the Jets game I was not sure it was a dominate performance by the Niners or a totally uninspired Jets team that played a good half then gave the game away.  The Jets seemed to lie down after the Holmes fumble. Yet as I watched the game again the Niner’s offensive line just play after play smashed the Jets into a state of despair. The following week came a game of historical proportions as the Niners did something no team in the history of the NFL has done with a 300 300 game.  The Bills are not that bad of a team the Niner’s made them look that bad. Say what you want about the Bills but this is a team that has put a lot of points on the board against some good teams and had one of the better running games in the league with a qb that was among the leaders in touchdown passes. This was the most dominating performance I personally have ever witnessed in a professional football game.  While Drew Brees broke one of the oldest records in football the Niner’s did what has never been done, and the style of offense the Niners  run they may just do it again.

The run heavy offense that dares opponents to stop what is coming, a tons worth of blockers with running backs that are patient and hit the holes with authority. If that isn’t enough to worry about then you get a jet sweep with one of three different speed receivers. It is almost to a point the last two games where the offense was passing to just let the defense know we can do that as well.

This week the Giants come to town and will see what they can do to stop the NIner’s offense.  The Niner’s offense is ranked 6th and the Giant’s defense is 22nd and if you really want to dig deep they have yet to face a top 10 offense and three of the teams they have faced are in the bottom third in offensive stats which also happen to account for the three wins on their record.  The talk on tv so far has been about the Niner’s defense and the Giants offense because statistically it looks better. Yet if you break it down this game statistically is not even close.

So how does this become a Heavyweight bout when most everyone is picking the Niners to win? The Giants have a team that many believe can play as physical as the Niners. If you go by last year, yes they could match up, and the teams are nowhere near the same as they were last year.  The Giants will have to step up in a big way to compete in this game and the Niners will be looking to complete a New York sweep. Emotions will be running high which will make for a great game but if the last two weeks is any indication of what the Niner’s offense is capable of doing, the will of the Giants will be tested.
