Last night at ESPN’s 20th annual ESPY Awards, the San Francisco 49ers won the category for Game of the Year. The award was for the 49ers’ 36-32 NFC Divisional playoff win over the Saints, which had four lead changes in the final four minutes. Tight end Vernon Davis and linebacker Patrick Willis accepted the award for the 49ers.
The NFC Divisional playoff win will go down as one of the best wins and games played in 49ers franchise history. Who can forget the last two touchdowns of the game? The 28-yard touchdown run by Alex Smith that put the 49ers up 29-24 and the 14-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Davis that sealed the victory for the 49ers.
Davis accepted the award in style wearing a wine-colored jacket, polka-dot bow tie and a pair of thick-rimmed glasses. He thanked the 49ers Faithful, teammates, coaches, CEO Jed York and Smith. Davis had Jimmy Murphy, a young boy battling cystic fibrosis, join him and Willis on stage for the acceptance speech.
