49ers Playoffs Setting Up Nicely

Well the NFC playoff picture is just about set with the Giants and Cowboys ready to start the playoffs early it is like a play in game in the NCAA tourney. When I started putting together these articles I had said how the perfect scenario for the Niners to me would be the falcons in the 6th seed and now that is a real possibility. Yes I know no coach or player will say it but success in the playoffs has a little something to do with who you play and when. Yes you have to play the team that is next in line but would you rather play the Saints then Packers to get to the Super Bowl or Lions, Giants then Falcons.

Should  the Falcons earn the sixth seed and the Niners get the 2nd seed the match up would be the Saints and though the Falcons did not look to be a threat Monday night they will give the Saints all they can handle. In the NFL it has always been very difficult for two good teams to sweep a series and to win three in a season tends to be even more difficult. While the odds favor the Saints in this match up since history has shown that in 19 such meetings 12 times the team was able to win 3 games. This Falcon team is worth a look though they have the offense to compete with the Saints and should have won the first meeting in Atlanta. If  the Falcons defeat the Saints they would then travel to Green Bay where once again they have a team also capable of giving the Packers all they can handle.

The Niners meanwhile would take on the winner of the Lions/ NFC East Champ now the Niners have played each of these teams and would be more familiar with the opponent they would now face. This would be a great thing for a team that has little to no playoff experience.  Should the Saints be the ones to come to San Francisco it would be a more difficult task to prepare for the game. I do believe we can beat the Saints at home but seeing an opponent we have played would be a bigger advantage for the Niners and there players. If the Falcons can pull off a victory in Green Bay the Niners will then host a second playoff game giving them a very good opportunity to go to the Super Bowl.

So does it matter if the Niners go the way of Saints,Packers or (Lions, Giants, Cowboys), Falcons.  No player or coach will say what they would prefer because you only have the game that is presented to you everything else doesn’t matter you still have to win. But I bet the odds makers would give us a better chance based on my preferred playoff scenario.
