Steelers vs. 49ers: Team Asks Fans to Keep Niner Noise Down

In case you did not know the 49ers are playing some team from Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football.  The 49ers would like for you to show up and cheer on the 49ers but please, keep it down when the 49ers are on offense.

In an official press release the 49ers released the following statement:

The 49ers Faithful are noted for bringing their “Niner Noise” to Candlestick Park. However, the 49ers are asking fans to help the team by reducing the decibel level at Candlestick when the team has the ball. Having good communication, including making timely verbal calls, is important to the offense.

Two weeks ago after the 49ers win over the Rams Joe Staley tweeted that the 49er Faithful should stop doing the wave during the game, because it distracts the offense.  With the most important game for the 49ers in recent memory coming up against the Steelers, the team would like for you to be excited, but please be quit when the 49ers are on offense.  Because you might interrupt them when they are inside the red zone, and your continuous cheering after years of futility by the team, may stop them from scoring.

I understand that fans should be quit when the home team is on offense but the 49ers Faithful deserve to cheer when they want, no matter who has the football.  If the team really wants fans to keep the “Niner Noise” down, they should have started playing like they are now seasons ago.  This is the natural progression of a fan of a team who dominates two decades of football, then enters a new century watching the same team start a decade of decline.

This season will be the 49ers first winning season, NFC West title and playoff appearance since 2002.  So the 49ers should expect a lot of cheering by the fans even during possessions by the offense.  Niner fans are keeping up the noise because it has been so long since the team has been a force in the NFL.

The 49ers are trying to entice fans to show up early to the Monday Night Football showdown with the Steelers.  The team is offering up to 50% off of concession stands, sorry beer not included, to get the stadium filled before the 5:30pm kickoff.  So Niner fans, come early to the game to fill the stadium for Jed York so he can look good, but please keep it down when the 49ers have the football.  Oh, please.  Note to Niner fans on Monday night: Cheer as loudly as you can, even when the 49ers are on offense.  Just maybe lower it a little when they are about to snap the football.
