Good News On 49ers Injury Front

FINALLY!  Some good news today on the 49ers injury front today.  After losing Joshua Morgan to a season ending leg injury last week in garbage time vs the Bucs it looked like the Lions game may be even grimmer.  Left Guard Mike Iupati sat out yesterday’s practice and was seen wearing a sleeve on his knee.  Iupati going down would have serious implications for the entire Offensive Line.  Lions Nose Tackle Ndamukong Suh lines up over the Right Guard almost exclusively.  If Iupati were to sit out the game that would mean Adam Snyder would have to move over to the left side while Chilo Rachal would be re-inserted into the starting lineup, Suh vs Rachal could’ve been very ugly for the 49ers.

NT Isaac Sopoaga also returned to practice today after missing last week’s game with a staph infection.  Additional concerns were raised about Sopoaga’s health after his arm was in a slinge  earlier in the week.  This was Sopoaga’s second consecutive day of practice and Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio said he is expected to be available for the game Sunday in Detroit.

Wide Receiver Braylon Edwards watched practice from the sidelines as he gets closer to his return to the field.  The 49ers have suffered several injuries at WR this season.  Edwards return, expected after the bye week vs his former team the Cleveland Browns will be huge for the offense.

The bye week seems to be coming at a perfect time for the 49ers.  While only a few players are out with long term injuries a few have popped up with lingering issues while still playing on Sundays.  Week seven’s bye week should help the 49ers get healthy and hopefully return to action week eight 5-1 and rejuvenated.
