As an NFL fan, heck as a person you should never root for someone to hurt themselves, pretty basic value in society something we teach our kids. Yet I’m sure every fan of the San Francisco 49ers couldn’t help but smile when Eagles Quarterback Michael Vick was injured in week 3. After initial reports indicated that Vick had in fact broken his right (non-throwing) hand and would be out 2-4 weeks I’ll admit I wasn’t just smiling I was flat out excited. After a tough, grind it out win in Cincinnati staying on the East Coast and facing a Vick lead Eagles team just doesn’t sound promising. An Eagles team led by someone not named Michael Vick (how’s that Kevin Kolb trade working out right about now?) now that sounds promising.
Since the initial reports of the broken hand however Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid reveled that it was in fact not a fracture rather a hand contusion or deep bone bruise. Now it seems Vick does have a real shot at playing Sunday vs the 49ers. Vick was “relieved” by the news, although swelling in the hand has not gone down yet after a “contusion.” Reid wouldn’t say whether Vick could play this week. Sources in Philadelphia are already calling Vick’s chances “likely”
The Eagles also received good news on the status of another star player Wide Receiver Jeremy Maclin is now listed as day to day with his hamstring injury that initially had team officials worried.
In 49er news word around the team is that RB Frank Gore will play Sunday vs. the Eagles after suffering an ankle injury week 3 at Cincinnati. A reminder to our Ohio readers, the 49ers have elected to stay in Youngstown OH as they prepare to take on the Eagles in Philadelphia rather than go back and forth between games. Click here for more on Gore’s status as well as the possible benching of RG Chilo Rachal.
