New Reason 49ers Should Trade for Kevin Kolb

With recent draft pick Colin Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh’s love affair with Alex Smith both will most likely be the two quarterbacks for the 49ers next season.  The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks did not select a quarterback in the draft so both teams will either go through free agency or with current quarterbacks on their roster.  Matt Hasselbeck could re-sign with the Seahawks but they have Charlie Whitehurst who is an unproven quarterback but has all the signs of a solid quarterback.  The Cardinals started four quarterbacks last season and none are desirable starters for next season.  There is not a solid list of quarterbacks available on the market whenever it is NFL owners stop being greedy and let free agency begin.  Which means both the Cardinals and Seahawks could be in the hunt for Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb through a trade.  The Cardinals are the favorites to trade for Kolb which is why I think the 49ers need to preempt Arizona and trade for the QB.  Simple as that, trade for a player so a division rival does not get the player.  I would be for that if it meant the 49ers would not have to go up against Sam Bradford and Kolb four games a season.

  • Scared to Compete

That is one of the dumbest things I heard in a long time. Let’s trade for Kevin Kolb, mortgage our future in the process, because were afraid to compete.

  • PageZoso

The guy hasnt done ANYTHING in the NFL. In fact he has more INTs than TDs. He is merely the flavor of the month. We got our guy, Harbaugh is happy so I am happy. Kolb is a nobody I cant understand why all the buzz around him. He is no better than a college kid with potential.

The Eagles want first round picks for Kolb. Why should the niners give up what they need for an unproven quarterback

  • Rompalation559

I do agree we shouldnt give first round picks for kolb. However, if a deal could be worked out to trade for him not involving our first round picks, I think we should. I wish we could just trade straight across Alex Smith for kolb! Kolb may be “unproven” so far but has done well when given a chance. All that Alex Smith has “proven” in 6 years is that if you want a losing season well then he is the man for that!

  • WTF

Dumbist thing I’ve read in quite some time. Why don’t they sign Hasselbeck too while they’re at it? (sarcasm) Concentrate on winning and let the other teams trade more than a first round pick for some unproven dude.

I wouldn’t mind Kolb if he costs us a 3rd round pick or later and we could see him play for a year or 2 before having to give him a big contract. I agree Kolb is probably better than Alex Smith however he hasn’t proved nearly enough to be worth the ransom the Eagles want (and will probably get from some stupid team) for him. Colin K. is the QB of the future here in SF. If any other QB is brought in besides AS it will be someone like Bulger, Hasselbeck or maybe K.Orton.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is the guy worth going after

  • Tiger

Very poorly written. Dumbest comment/suggestion I have ever read…

reminds me of a young Jeff Garcia
