Pure Nonsense.

Jim Harbaugh is a QB coach, Singletary & Nolan (and many other HC's are not and were not QB coaches).

So what does that prove? All that says is that (obviously) having a HC who also serves as a QB coach CAN be an advantage when it comes to drafting a QB. Can be.

One of the greatest QB's ever (Dan Marino) was drafted by a defensive HC, Don Shula.

One of the biggest busts in NFL history, Ryan Leaf, was drafted by a HC who was a former QB coach/OC, June Jones.

Another huge draft bust, Tim Couch, drafted by a former QB coach/OC, Chris Palmer.

Tom Brady? Drafted by a Defensive HC, Bill Belichick.
Peyton Manning? Defensive HC, Jim Mora Sr.

Matt Ryan? Drafted by a defensive HC, Mike Smith.
Sam Bradford? Drafted by a defensive HC, Steve Spagnuolo.
Josh Freeman? Drafted by a defensive HC, Raheem Morris.

Aaron Rodgers? Former 49er OC and current GB Packer HC Mike McCarthy didn't want him either in SF. It wasn't just Mike Nolan.

McCarthy has admitted that he preferred Smith to Rodgers based on his belief that Smith was a better athlete.

Therefore, if you want to criticize the Mikes (Nolan & Singletary) then you also have to criticize the current SB winning HC Mike McCarthy.

Get it?

NinerNoise.com is making some noise around the web! Recently the ninernoise staff has found our articles and website referred to on a few national publications. The most prominent being SI.com....check the SI.com NFL section and go to the 49ers team page. Over the last few weeks Niner Noise has had a daily spot within the team news section.

Thank you for your continued support of the site!

great read Eric! I believe Harbaugh may be the very best in the NFL right now at evaluating QBs with the exception of Andy Reid. I think Aldon Smith is way less of a project as everyone makes him out to be. Think about this, what if Smith wasn't hurt last year and matched or even exceeded his previous seasons amazing stats (11.5 sacks 19 tackles behind LOS). At that rate it's my opinion that Smith would have been rated AHEAD of Von Miller. Smith not Colin will be the 1st tangible proof that Baalke/Harbaugh know what they are doing. I think Turner the 4th round RB is going to be an instant contributor as a change of pace guy as well. One thing that is virtually being ignored about this draft is the ST value. Think back, how many losses have the 9ers suffered due to ST? At least 2 per year the last 5 years.
