Should've drafted Aaron Rodgers, huh? Let's look back over the last 6 years. Aaron Rodgers had how many head coaches? One, two? How many Offensive Coordinators did he have? One, two? That makes for success. Now, how many head coaches and Offensive Coordinators did Alex Smith have? Three head coaches and 6, count them SIX offensive coordinators! I promise you, if Rodgers had that issue in Green Bay and Smith had the security that Rodgers has now then it would be backwards. Smith would be a great QB with his first super bowl ring and Rodgers would be the one hearing the boo birds at Candlestick every week. We've seen great things out of Alex and you can't blame the last 6 years of poorly played football on just him... it's a TEAM sport. I say let Harbaugh coach the kid so we can see what he's really made of.

Alex is a bum and not a bum at the same time. He doesn't have the mentality "upstairs" to be the elite QB we need. Not saying that some actual decent coaching can't change that, he could be what we thought he would be.
Simpletary was just that...simple. He blew it for us bigtime. I think alex can succeed. I wish we would've just drafted Aaron Rodgers...who blew that call? Oh yea, Trent Baalke!!

I'm not convinced that Alex Smith is a totally lost cause, and I think it's simplistic (and part of the unfortunate, cultish, quarterback obsession that has taken over the culture of the game) to blame him for all of our failures over the past six years. But the point is that the overwhelming majority of fans don't want him back (since most can't see past the QB position), and the Niner organization really does need a fresh start, a clean slate. (It would be nice--and far more productive--if we could just as easily get rid of the Yorks...)
