Alex Smith currently sits at home after his sixth turbulent season with the San Francisco 49ers.  His mind is set on free agency, contemplating whether or not to sign with another team or return to the 49ers under their third coaching regime since Smith was selected number one overall in the 2005 draft. With the hiring of Jim Harbaugh it was unrealistic to think that a majority of 49ers coaches who served under former head coach Mike Singletary would remain on staff.  Harbaugh retained some of the coaches, in my opinion the best ones, but most of them were let go under the new regime.  Singletary signed on to coach the Vikings linebackers and will be an assistant head coach to Leslie Frazier.  Former defensive coordinator Greg Manusky interviewed with the Cowboys, Panthers and Chargers and is now the new defensive play caller for the Bolts.    Another former 49ers coach is headed [...]

Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer injected his name into NFL news this week by calling for a trade or else he will retire.  With Palmer financially secured for the rest of his life one might think he will follow through on his retirement threat.  We have seen this before with former quarterback Jake Plummer retiring early but how serious is Palmer?  Bengals owner Mike Brown said he will not trade Palmer because he is a big part of the teams plans for rebuilding.  NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi said the 49ers should make a call to inquire about trading for Palmer because [...]

Jim Harbaugh is quickly rounding out his roster of coaches.  Harbaugh hired Geep Chryst as quarterback’s coach, Ed Donatell as secondary coach, Jim Leavitt as linebackers coach and Brad Seely as the special teams coordinator. Three of the four coaches have great experience in NFL and at the position they were hired to run.  Having a 49er head coach hire experienced coaches that will not only improve the players but will help out Harbaugh is a departure from Mike Singletary.

As expected Jim Harbaugh hired two Stanford coaches as the 49ers next offensive and defensive coordinator.  Greg Roman was hired as the offensive coordinator and Vic Fangio as the defensive coordinator.  Harbaugh added one more Stanford coach Tim Drevno as an offensive line coach.  With so many Stanford coaches going north from Palo Alto to San Francisco at first I thought this might come back to haunt the 49ers by not hiring proven coordinators who worked recently in the NFL.   But worry not 49er Faithful.  Roman has never been an offensive coordinator however he has 13 years of coaching [...]

The first thing on Jim Harbaugh’s to do list is to fill out his coaching staff.  With under experienced offensive coordinator Mike Johnson mostly likely not staying on the 49ers staff and defensive coordinator Greg Manusky interviewing with the Cowboys, Cardinals and Chargers, Harbaugh has candidates to interview to fill out his staff.  Among those most mentioned who might join Harbaugh in San Francisco, current Stanford coach’s look to be high on the list.  Vic Fangio who is the current defensive coordinator for Stanford has been interviewed by Harbaugh.  Fangio would be a great choice to be the 49ers next [...]

Almost three full days have passed since the 49ers announced the hiring of Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach.  I still feel as enthusiastic now as I did when I first found out about the hiring, if not more.  I have talked to many friends that are not 49er fans and of course there were many doubts in their opinions of whether or not Harbaugh can succeed in the NFL.  I think many of them were just bitter that it was not their team that landed the hottest coaching prospect in recent memory.  Here are some of the questions [...]

A source close to Jim Harbaugh told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi that the 49ers have hired the former Stanford coach.  The deal is reported as being at five-years worth $5 million a year.  There are little details out right now about exactly what went down.  The 49ers have scheduled a news conference for 3:30PM (PST) in San Francisco and did not say what it will entail.
