Eric,

I like your blog...we seem to think along the same lines WRT the draft. I knew Davis was Singletary's guy when he spent that much time with him at Santa Clara. I "called' the 2nd OL in the 1st rd...I wasn't sure if it'd be Iupati or Pouncey...either guy would fill the bill. It's just the kind of big OL investment we needed...then when we "stole" Dixon in the 6th rd (amazing), I knew Coach had just realized his dream of having a power running team. Both Mays and Bowman should fit right into what Manusky's doing on defense...in fact, they give him two fast, tough defenders to get his unit to the next level. Also love the Byham pick...he's a real bruiser TE but he can also catch the ball. Some critics slammed him because he's not fast, but they obviously don't realize we have all the speed we need at the position in Vernon and Delanie. I'm also excited about Kyle Williams...saw him play a couple of times last year and he's a real baller. He should be a dandy slot receiver...another missing ingredient from the offense in recent years. His return skills are simply a bonus. Speaking of that, I'm also excited w/LeRoy Vann, a KR extraordinare. Coach Schottenheimer has to be stoked with the likes of Ginn, Williams and Vann to pump up the once weak KR game.

The niners did a great job this year in the draft. Instead of taking a chance at Clausen, they picked two O-linemen who definetly fit the style of the 49ers. In the second round they pick FS Taylor Mays from So Cal, I see a young Ronnie Lott in this guy. In the third round they picked OLB Navarro Bowman, who is also a tough and physical player.

Thanks. Corrected the error on Willis. I am aware that the mock drafts had Iupati going somewhere around the 17th pick but I said it was a surprise pick because the 49ers had already selected an offensive lineman. I never mentioned Eric Berry in the post.
