NFL Committee: Super Bowl in Santa Clara

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Popular, Rumors, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

The NFL committee in charge of selecting sites for the Super Bowl has told the San Francisco 49ers if the stadium is built the sport’s biggest game of the year will be held in Santa Clara.  Nothing is official as the committee said to the 49ers they will “support and encourage a Super Bowl bid” if Santa Clara voters approve public funding for the new stadium. A recent poll conducted by the San Jose Mercury News and KGO-TV shows support for the measure with 52 percent of likely voters backing Measure J, 36 percent against with 11 percent undecided.  Santa [...]

NFC West Power Structure

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

The San Francisco 49ers had a good draft filling holes that upgraded the offense and defense.  But what about the rest of the NFC West?  Did any team do anything for this upcoming season to change the dynamics of the power structure in the division? Let’s take a team by team look: Arizona Cardinals The Cardinals have reined atop of the NFC West the last two years however that was with Kurt Warner under center.  With Warner retired and Matt Leinart now the starting quarterback the offensive side of the football has been downgraded.  Throw-in the trade of WR Anquan [...]

49ers Draft Recap

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Draft, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Draft general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Mike Singletary had a great draft  filling many holes with talented draft picks that have huge upside.  The draft had Singletary written all over it because of the toughness and physical aspects the drafted players displayed in college.  It was in the end Baalke’s decision as to whom the 49ers would draft and so far I think he drafted his way into being the official GM of the Niners.  That would be the smart thing to do but then again the 49ers front office have stricken the word smart from basically all decisions recently [...]

49ers Select Safety Taylor Mays with 49th pick of 2nd Round

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Breaking News, Draft, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The 49ers selected USC safety Taylor Mays with their first pick of the second round.  Great pick-up as the Niners need help in the secondary and with Mays’ size and ability to change directions quickly while backpedaling means the 49ers might not be giving up the deep passes for touchdowns like last season. .

49ers Select Lineman Mike Iupati with 17th Pick

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Breaking News, Draft, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 49ers selected offensive guard Mike Iupati from Idaho with their 17th pick. A surprise pick as the 49ers selected a lineman six picks earlier but this improves the offensive line from last year.  Iupati is a good run blocker and with Frank Gore getting older the 49ers are showing that they still believe in his abilities but realize they need a solid offensive line to have success with the run.

Breaking News: 49ers Select OT Anthony Davis with 11th Pick

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Breaking News, Draft, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 49ers traded their 13th pick with Broncos to select 11th and also gave up their fourth round pick, number 113th.  With the pick the 49ers selected Rutgers offensive tackle Anthony Davis.  I am obviously happy with this pick as I said the 49ers would select Davis with their first pick.  The 49ers are sending a huge message that Alex Smith is their man under center.

NFL Draft Day-Round 1

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Draft, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, Popular, Rumors, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Happy Draft Day!  One of the most important dates on the NFL off-season calendar is today with the first-round of the draft starting at 4:30PM PST.  The NFL changed up the draft schedule this year with the first-round tonight, rounds two and three tomorrow night and rounds four through seven on Saturday.  I think this new schedule will work as teams have more time to pick in the most important rounds, one and two. All the pundits, experts and mock drafts have been filled out but anything can happen on draft day with trades and surprise picks of players drafted [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, Popular, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

At first glance of the 2010 schedule for the San Francisco 49ers one thing is clear, Mike Singeltary’s smash mouth football will be on display in not one, not two, not three…okay they will be on national TV for five games next season:  The 49ers home opener in week two on September 20 will be against the defending Super Bowl Champs New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.  The 49ers will also host the Eagles in week five on October 10 on NBC’s Sunday night game.  The Red and Gold will travel across the pond to play the Broncos in [...]

Another Joe Montana Video

AUTHOR: | IN: 49ers, Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area, Video | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

On Monday I posted a video showing former 49ers legend Joe Montana throwing passes to high school football players with one of his passes going long out into the parking lot hitting a coach’s car (Video is also below).  I came across another video in which Montana is throwing at the same field trying to hit targets and he smacks some guy in the head riding a lawnmower. Thanks to Sketchers for sponsoring this post.
