Kurt Schottenheimer, the younger brother of former NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer and uncle of current Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, has been hired as the new 49ers special teams coach after Al Everest was fired last week.  Schottenheimer brings 22 years of NFL coaching experience having been not only a special teams coach (Browns ’87-‘88, Chiefs ‘89-‘94) but has been in charge of defensive backs (Chiefs ’95-’98, Packers ’04), defensive coordinator (Redskins ’01, Lions ’02-’03) and the secondary (Rams ’05, Packers ’06-08).  It is great that Schottenheimer has so much coaching experience but if you take a look at the [...]

Trick or treat!  The NFL announced that the 49ers and Broncos will be the two teams squaring off against each in London, England on October 31.  In what has become a yearly tradition for the NFL the 49ers will once again represent San Francisco and the NFL on an international stage.  Back in 2005 the Niners played the Cardinals in Mexico City at Azteca Stadium in front of 103, 467 fans.  The game was the first time an NFL regular season game was played on international soil.  Surprisingly this will be the 49ers 10th game playing outside of the United [...]

With a win in the last game of the season against the Ram the 49ers finished with an 8-8 record and ended a seven year streak of finishing below .500.  Technically it is an improvement from last year after finishing 7-9 but head coach Mike Singletary sold the 49er Faithful on this team being able to make the playoffs.  He also said the offense would run the football 60% but that didn’t last long either.  After starting 3-1 with wins against divisional opponents Cardinals, Seahawks and Rams and even with the last second heartbreaking loss to the Vikings your 2009 [...]
