49ers Look Toward .500

The 49ers were officially eliminated from the playoffs with a lack of urgency and the need to win in their play Sunday against the Eagles. The best we can hope for from them this year is an 8-8 record and second place in the NFC West.  If anything we should not have been surprised by the Niners play on the road.  After the loss their record is 1-6 on the road, not very playoff like.  Their uninspiring play was doomed from the beginning of the game and the 49ers played like a 6-8 team and not a playoff team.  Alex Smith had a bad game but I am not ready to give up on him yet.  He has progressed so let’s see what he can do as the number 1 quarterback in all of the off season.  Even with Vernon Davis’ breakout season as a receiver he still has issues with his hands.  I have seen too many automatic touchdowns bounce off him that would have helped in the final score of a loss. The off season has already started and we all know the holes we need to fix which are the offensive line and the secondary but the 49ers need to win out the last two games to finish at .500.  With games against the Lions and Rams in the final two weeks the odds are in the 49ers favor but then again this was been a team that plays exceptional one week and horrendous the next game.
