Offense and Defense Propel 49ers Win

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

.
Mike Singletary’s intense passion and motivation gave him a perception of a head coach that is stubborn and unwilling to go against his “physical” with an F style of offense he wanted to install with offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye.  Singletary said in training camp that he wanted to run the football 60% of the time each game.  With a great running back in Frank Gore and an average, if that, non-big playmaking quarterback in Shaun Hill you would probably want to run the football a majority of the time as well.  Not only because of the “Fhysical” nature Singletary longed [...]

Letter to Mike Singletary and Jimmy Raye

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

.
Dear Mr Singletary and Mr Raye,
Currently your team stands at 4-6, three games back from the Cardinals in the NFC West lead.  With six games left on the schedule and us losing five of the last six games the opportunity of making the playoffs as a wild card team is basically closed. The only way the 49ers will make the playoffs this year, as you said Mr Singletary the 49ers were capable of doing, is to win the NFC West.  With one game remaining against the Cardinals at home and with the 49ers already beating Arizona in week one, the [...]

Josh Morgan to Start at Receiver

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

.
Aging wonder Isaac Bruce was inactive in the victory over the Bears on Thursday due to an ankle injury however even though he is healthy now Mike Singletary announced that Josh Morgan will start opposite Michael Crabtree for the remainder of the season.  This is a good move by Singletary as the 49ers are trying to find out what type of NFL players their young receivers will become.  Other than Crabtree, second year receiver Morgan has the best potential upside in becoming a dominant wider receiver.  Having Crabtree to distract the defense helps as well.  We are starting to see [...]

Niners Pick Cutler Five Times, End Losing Streak

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

.
The win was ugly but it was a win nonetheless and ended the 49ers four-game losing streak.  Thanks to Bears quarterback Jay Cutler for continuing his best impression of Bret Favre by trying to pass into tight spots and throwing five picks.  Much of the credit has to go to defensive coordinator Greg Manusky who drew up a game plan that attacked what the Bears do best which is the pass.  Even though Cutler threw for 307 yards the 49ers defense executed Manusky’s game plan to almost perfection as the 49ers leaned on their defense to win the game.  Tarell [...]

Chicago Bears (4-4) vs. San Francisco 49ers (3-5)

Bill Walsh Field at Candlestick Park

…5:20 PM (PST)
.

The 49ers take on the Bears in the second installment of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football.  The 49ers will be looking to end their four game losing streak as they face off against a Bears team coming off a blowout loss to the Cardinals at home.  The Bears have lost three of the last four games and will look to stay in contention in the NFC North with a win tonight.  All eyes will be on the tonight’s contest as it is the [...]

Midseason Niners Still Have Long Way to Go

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

For every one or two steps forward the 49ers have made this season they seem to take three steps back.  We were sold by head coach Mike Singletary and GM Scot McCloughan that this year’s version of the Red and Gold would be different than the past.  Having gone through seven years of futility and no winning records I bought into what Singletary was selling.  Everything was there for the Niners to succeed but for every progress there has been regression.  We had drafted a prolific wide receiver in Michael Crabtree.  We know what ensued after that and have [...]

49ers Fail Again, Extend Losing Streak to Four

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The 49ers find themselves at the halfway point in the 2009 season on a four game losing streak, losing five of the last six games and are two games behind the Cardinals in the NFC West with a 3-5 record.  With the Titans getting their first win of the season last week and with quarterback Vince Young making only his second start of the season the 49ers were in position to snap a tough three game losing streak all while at home at the Stick.  Yesterday the 49ers not only continued their losing streak but also continued their inability to [...]

I will be back on Monday with a full recap of the Titans vs. 49ers game.
Prospectors Prediction
Titans 16  49ers 27
The Titans may have gotten their first win of the season last week but there is no way the Niners will lose four in a row.

Sunday Injuries Devastating to 49ers

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, Injuries, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Well, I was hoping for the best but read the worst this morning as it was reported that left tackle Joe Staley will be out six weeks due to a sprained right knee he sustained against the Colts on Sunday.  Staley is the best offensive lineman on the 49ers and his absence will be felt on offense.  Another big injury in the loss against the Colts was cornerback Nate Clements who was replaced in the starting lineup by Tarell Brown.  Clements broke his right shoulder blade and will be out 6-8 weeks.
Offensive lineman Barry Sims was interested into the game [...]

49ers Lose to Colts 18-14

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

The San Francisco 49ers were able to keep up with the undefeated Indianapolis Colts and almost pulled out the upset victory but in the end Peyton Manning and his team prevailed 18-14.  While the defense executed its game plan for Manning and his high powered offense almost to perfection, Alex Smith and his offense could not put any points on the scoreboard in the second-half as the Colts won with a halfback option pass by running back Joseph Addai to wide receiver Reggie Wayne six seconds into the fourth quarter.  With plenty of time left in the fourth quarter to [...]
