Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been dropped from a group of investors lead by St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts to purchase the St. Louis Rams. With the Rams on a current losing streak of 15 games, and the recent demolishing by the Niners, I did not think the Rams organization could do any more self destruction but with the thought of Limbaugh being part of the NFL that is 70% African American they proved me wrong. Checketts did the right thing by dropping Limbaugh from the group not only because of his nihilistic political rants but his racially charged comments about the NFL.
Limbaugh at his worst:
“The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well.”’
“The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons.”
Had Limbaugh successfully purchased the Rams would he have purged the team of all African-American players, registered Democrat players, liberal players and anyone else who does not agree with his delusional ideology? As much as I hate the Rams and the downfall that would have ensued had Limbaugh bought team, I would not wish that on the Rams organization or anyone. Whether his comments are political, entertainment or that he truly believes the racism that comes of his month does not matter either. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell always says that no player, coach or owner is above the NFL Shield. He is right and with Limbaugh being a part of the NFL his huge ego would not let him be just another owner but someone who needs the spotlight and brings it to him by making baseless and inflammatory comments. Need further proof? Take a look at his comments from this morning about being dropped from the bidding group to purchase the Rams:
“This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me. This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative.”
This is a prime example of Limbaugh’s huge ego. He makes it out to be about him and that he is being attacked. Certainly the liberal left and the “liberal” media are not responsible. It was the NFL owners with Colts owner Jim Irsay saying he would not vote for his bidding group and the NFL Players Union executive director DeMaurice Smith saying players should speak out against the bid. I believe Isray represented the majority of what owners were thinking and Smith represented what a majority of NFL players were thinking. There are plenty of NFL owners and players who are Republican and who considered themselves to be on the Right but not one person has come forward in support of Limbaugh’s bid. Whether or not there are some owners and players who are fans of Limbaugh and buy into what he is selling, even they know he would be a disaster for the integrity of the NFL. Everyone associated with NFL already knows that there is blight on their record because of Michael Vick’s dog fighting arrest and imprisonment and even the thought of Limbaugh being a part of the NFL would be even bigger stain on league.
Maybe he should try NASCAR but I think even then a majority of owners, drivers and fans would be against being associated with someone who is so divisive.
