According to the San Francisco Chronicle Mike Singletary just announced incumbent starter Shaun Hill will be under center for the 49ers on opening Sunday September 13.
“I like the consistency,” Singletary said of Hill. “He has a commanding presence about him. When he gets in the huddle, the guys have learned to rally around him. Shaun offers a lot of leadership, and I’m excited about that.”
This was no surprise and I thought Singeltary would name Hill the starter but it was surprising he even had a QB competition after Hill basically was a big reason why Singeltary retained full-time status as the 49ers head coach. As much as I wanted Alex Smith to be come out of nowhere and win the job, we knew that was not going to happen. Hill may not look impressive in practice nor be the big name quarterback the 49ers thought they had in Smith but he leads the Niners to wins and he was finally awarded for that with being named the starter for the season. Let’s hope he will build on his 7-3 record as a starter for the 49ers.
