According to Michael Crabtree’s cousin and adviser, David Wells, MCT is prepared to sit out the 2009 season and re-enter the NFL draft in 2010 if he does not get the contract he is seeking. See the story on ESPN: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4381335
This is unbelievable. It is one thing to “handle your business” as so many have said MCT is doing in defending him but two weeks into training camp of which he has missed nine days of camp and you issue this ultimatum, not through our own words but from an “adviser”! That is fine Crabtree, sit out the year. Our receiving corps and the rest of team is already practicing without you. In the ESPN story they say his agent, Eugene Parker, that a threat has not been made on his part. Smoke and mirrors. Have one person who is a cousin and so-called adviser release this statement and then have your agent come out against the statement. All for what? To pressure the 49ers into giving into your contract demands? Football is a team sport and you are just one player. Regardless of whether or not you are on the field the Red and Gold will be fine without.
Note to Crabtree: You are not off to a good start with the 49er Faithful. Just because you were outstanding in college at a mid-level university does not mean you are the second coming of Jerry Rice. We have endured too many draft busts and other disappoints since the 49er Glory Years, so whether or not you made the threat to your cousin does not matter because this came from somewhere and it just looks like you are backtracking on your words and will not stand up for what you have said. I can only speak for myself but I am sure GM Scot McCloughan and company are like me and did not respond well to threats. There was a reason why you dropped to number ten and now the 49ers are finding out why.
