The Passing of Steve McNair

The big sports story from this past weekend was the shooting death of former NFL QB Steve McNair in Nashville, TN. Waking up to the news on the Fourth of July was sad and I can only imagine how Titan and Raven fans are feeling as more information is released about the circumstances revolving around his death. Today authorities announced McNair’s girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, who has also found dead in McNair’s condo had purchased a gun several days before the shooting. Police have not classified Kazemi’s death however it will most likely be announced as a murder-suicide.

My greatest memory of McNair was watching him led the Titans on the final drive of the game in Super Bowl XXXIV and almost pulling out the victory against the Rams. Kevin Dyson came up a yard short of the end zone on the final play. If he scored the game would have went into overtime. As a 49ers fans I root for anyone playing against the Rams but on that day I was cheering like I was a Titans fan for them to pull out the victory. McNair was indestructible when on the playing field. It always seemed like he played hurt regardless of whether it was bruised ribs or some other serious injury. To have a 20-year-old girlfriend be the one to take McNair down is unbelievable.

What are some of your Steve McNair memories?
