Report on 49ers Family Day

The 49ers Family Day on Saturday had a big turnout. A lot of the activities were for kids, hence the family day. The event was on the field at Candlestick which was awesome. Mike Singletary did a Q&A with an interviewer from a radio station. I thought he would be taking questions from people in attendance nevertheless I can see how and why the 49er players get inspired just listening to him and believe in his leadership and vision for the team.

I was disappoint that they had a booth detailing the new proposed stadium. I was the only one that I saw that had a t-shirt saying “Keep the 49ers in SF”. Not too many people in attendance seemed to care about keeping the 49ers in SF. Probably because they were all from Santa Clara.

For the first time in my life I saw the five Super Bowl Championship trophy’s in person within five feet of me. It was amazing staring at the trophy’s. It makes you want the 49ers to win five more. Other than the autographs both, which had way too long of a line, the trophy booth was the most popular with fans taking pictures and making comments like “we need more rings!”

I am pretty confident that the residents of Santa Clara will not vote for the new stadium. Foreclosures are up in Santa Clara, and money is running short. Funding will not be able uphold what the Joke family (Yorks) have in store. There is almost always more money put into what is estimated, and Santa Clara residents have more important things to worry about. Plus Santa Clara knows the 49ers belong to San Francisco, and they can’t deny shopping in SF’s downtown, spending money in SF, visiting our national landmarks and when asked by outsiders, they say they are from the San Francisco Area.

Eric that must have been awesome seeing those Super Bowl trophy’s. And note to Doug I really do so admire your fighting optimism on keeping the 49ers in San Francisco.
But now here is our reality check. Item 1…Have any of you noticed how the local SF media isn’t really taking a firm stance in the niners remaining in SF? Most of them report for SF newspapers or out of SF tv news studios. But when it comes to the stadium situation the anchors attitude is like: “the weather is better down there,” “oh so what,” or “can we help you pack your bags?” Folks don’t let them get away with that attitude. When you see that happen call, write, or e-mail the media outlet and let them know the 49ers belong in SF. As you all know the 49er situation is not going to be resolved with the SF mayor, the media, or with the Yorks. It will have to be a grassroot effort. In the last few weeks I have talked to a former mayor of SF, who is highly disappointed in Gavin Newsom, and feel that the stadium will pass in Santa Clara. I also talked to a journalist at the SF Chronicle who told me that when Santa Clara came to their offices with the 49ers to meet with the Chron editorial staff, it was like it was a done deal. In other words the niners are out of SF.
Item 2…The opposition in Santa Clara is a small group. That is why i gave out their phone number, to help add to the groups membership. Item 3…The Yorks have done their PR homework mind you. They won’t say so, but they have polled the residents of Santa Clara. So the Yorks are very confident now that they have sweetened the Santa Clara deal. Don’t get down though, we can still do this, but we must be vigilant. The citizens of Santa Clara will have to be shown how their quality of life will change with a large stadium in the middle of their bedroom community. It is also hard economic times in all of California’s cities, large and small. How is Santa Clara doing economically? Item 4…But our main objective should be that the niners belong in San Francisco, if you believe that and love the team DO NOT BE SILENT! Tell your friends, family, and neighbors to call City Hall, and news outlets. Call the owners of Great America even get in touch with Eddie D, and tell them you oppose the niners moving to Santa Clara.
