Potential Mike Singletary Motivation Techniques

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: NFL, Rumors, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Remember when Mike Singletary dropped his pants during half-time against the Seahawks last year to motivate his team in his first game as coach? Well he is in full control now and entering his first training camp and first NFL season he has to top himself somehow. Here are my predictions:
Singletary will hire former teammate William “the Refrigerator” Perry to roam the sidelines dressed only in a jock strap and any player who misses a play or does not give 100% will face the ire of the Refrig when he returns to the bench.
Singletary will threaten to move any player [...]

The Case Against Alex Smith

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

When the 49ers made Alex Smith the number one pick in the 2005 draft I was ecstatic.  I thought we had our franchise quarterback the one we had been searching for since Steve Young.  He was a cerebral quarterback along the lines of Peyton Manning and at the time the best QB available in the draft.  Since then we have realized he might be cerebral like Manning but the comparisons end there and the other best QB available in the draft, Aaron Rogers, has proven so far to be a QB the Packers can rely on as a starter.  Four [...]

Report on 49ers Family Day

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The 49ers Family Day on Saturday had a big turnout. A lot of the activities were for kids, hence the family day. The event was on the field at Candlestick which was awesome. Mike Singletary did a Q&A with an interviewer from a radio station. I thought he would be taking questions from people in attendance nevertheless I can see how and why the 49er players get inspired just listening to him and believe in his leadership and vision for the team.
I was disappoint that they had a booth detailing the new proposed stadium. I was the only one that [...]

49ers Family Day: June 13

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Anyone going to the 49ers Family Day tomorrow at Candlestick Park? It is a free event and will be from 10 am-2 pm, check it out here: 49ers Family Day
I will be in attendance and I am going to wearing a t-shirt that says Keep the 49ers in SF. If you will be attending let me know. Otherwise look for me in the t-shirt. Hopefully there will be other 49er Faithful wearing similar shirts or have signs protesting the possible move to Santa Clara. There is a Q&A with coach Mike Singletary and autographs with players past and present. My [...]

My Two Cents: NBA Finals Game Last Night

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Off Topic/Other | COMMENTS: None Yet

I could care less about either team in the NBA Finals but watching Dwight Howard and Michael Pietrus basically blow the game and an NBA championship got me thinking. Did Howard “choke” missing those two free throws? Did Pietrus “choke” missing the game winning shot? I say no. What won out last night was experience over inexperience. Derek Fisher, a veteran of the playoffs and the Finals, hit his two big shots. The leaders of the Lakers, D-Fish, Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson all have plenty experience in the clutch. My point is this reminded me of the Bulls vs. [...]

Crabtree Runs for First Time

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Injuries, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

Wide receiver and number ten draft pick Michael Crabtree ran for the first time on Sunday since having surgery on his right foot for a stress fracture. This good news as Crabtree prepares himself for the start of training camp in late July. He is expected to gradually increase his running and will hopefully be able to run routes and cut before the start of training camp. Crabtree still remains unsigned as of June 9.
Joe Staley Given Extension
Offensive left tackle Joe Staley was given a six-year extension last Thursday. This was a great a move by the 49ers not only [...]

Santa Clara City Council Adopts Stadium Deal

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: NFL, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

After a 6 ½ hour debate and listening to Santa Clara residents in favor and opposed to building the Niner’s a new stadium the Santa Clara City Council voted 5-2 in favor of adopting the proposal. Now it is up to the citizens to vote their approval for the building of a new stadium which will likely come in March or April 2010. Here is what the city council is asking of the voters:

Use $79 million in public money to fund some of the construction costs.
Create a new tax on hotel guests at eight nearby hotels that will [...]

Santa Clara to Voice Opinion

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Santa Clara residents will get to voice their opinion tonight  on using city money to build a new stadium for the 49ers. As with anything in the United States citizens have the ultimate say and they will voice their official opinion sometime in March 2010. However little is known as to whether or not Santa Clara residents are in favor or against using $80 million of city money to fund the project. I would not be surprised if more citizens come out against building a new stadium than those in favor. Not because of my obvious bias but if anyone reads a newspaper in [...]
