GM Scot McCloughan Making A Name

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

For all the grief I give 49ers GM Scot McCloughan he gained some points with the draft last weekend. He has done a better job of running the team ever since former head coach Mike Nolan was booted from the team which  should have taken place in last year’s off-season. For him to give the coaching reins to Mike Singletary and let him implement his way was the turning point. I wonder how much input Singletary gave with each selection especially the 10th pick. When McCloughan was Vice President of Player Personnel from February 2005 until January 2008 the de [...]

49ers 2009 NFL Draft Recap

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The San Francisco 49ers did well overall in the 2009 NFL draft this past weekend however the need of an offensive tackle and an edge pass rusher went unfulfilled. Finally GM Scot McCloughan tried to improve the wide receiver position selecting Michael Crabtree with the tenth pick who has potential to be a star and play-maker not seen since T.O. left the team. The 49er Faithfull have to give thanks to Bay Area rival Oakland Raiders as they selected WR Darrius Heyward-Bey with the seventh pick in the draft. Once the Jaguars didn’t select a receiver with the eighth pick [...]

2009 NFL Draft

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Draft | COMMENTS: None Yet

The week of the NFL 2009 Draft is here. Soon we will no longer have to listen to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. or anyone else on that network or on any NFL related web site about who they think the 49ers will take with the 10th pick. I get a headache from reading all of the various “experts” and who they think the Niners will pick. I have heard everyone from Matt Stafford who the Lions will most likely take with the first pick to defensive tackle B.J. Raji. Remember people there are nine other teams with the same needs [...]

John Madden Retires from Broadcasting

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

John Madden the legendary broadcaster and NFL football video game king is calling it quits. Madden started his NFL career as linebackers coach with the Raiders and led them to a Super Bowl win in 1979. He joined CBS after that year as a broadcaster and has been delighting and confusing NFL football fans ever since with his passion and love for the telestrator. I will remember Madden more for his video games which I have bought many of times on the Super NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube and most recently last year’s 2009 edition on the Wii. He is calling [...]

San Francisco 49ers 2009 Schedule

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

The San Francisco 49ers released their 2009 schedule today. The 2009 schedule looks easier than last year’s where the 49ers found themselves facing off against the Saints, Patriots, Eagles and Giants in consecutive weeks in what I called “schedule hell”. The 49ers open up the season for the fourth straight year against the Cardinals at the Crushed Soda Can (University of Phoenix Stadium). Some notable home games include week 5 against Matt Ryan and Falcons, week 9 against the Titans, and a week 10 visit from Jay Cutler and the Bears. Some notable away games include week 3 against Adrian [...]

Santa Clara 49ers?

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: NFL, Rumors, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The everlasting courtship between the Joke (York) Family and city officials in Santa Clara, CA continues with a new development that could bring the 49ers to a new stadium closer to their team headquarters. The City of Santa Clara and the 49ers are close to an agreement to build a 68,500-seat stadium. We have heard this before and reasons for the agreement never being a done deal is logistics. Past hang ups have dealt with infrastructure issues surrounding the potential site, environmental impacts and an agreement in which the Joke Family are forced to purchase the Great America theme-park which [...]

Isaac Bruce Returns to 49ers

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Breaking News, The Bay Area | COMMENTS: None Yet

Wide receiver Isaac Bruce is not the player he once was in his glory days but he can still get it done and make the big plays. On Wednesday the 49ers learned from Bruce that he will return for his 16th NFL season and his second with the Red and Gold. Bruce lead the 49ers in receptions (61), yards (835) and touchdowns (7)  last season and will earn $1.5 million this season. Even though Bruce will turn 37 by the middle of the season his leadership and experience could be cited as the only reason the 49ers wanted him to [...]
